Connect to the UIndy VPN with Duo
The UIndy Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows you to securely connect to the UIndy network from off campus. The VPN is required to use for some UIndy services. UIndy has partnered with Duo Security to provide MFA for our UIndy VPN.
NetExtender is the VPN client for windows machines and Mobile Connect is the VPN client for MacOS machines.
If you have not already done so, please make sure you have done the following first:
- On your computer, open NetExtender to connect to the VPN.
- The NetExtender Connection: Make sure UIndy is listed under the drop-down menu for Connection. If UIndy is not present, you need to Add the Connection.
- Click the Connect button.
- Enter your UIndy credentials.
- Authenticate with Duo.
- On your computer, open Mobile Connect to connect to the VPN.
- The Mobile Connect Connection: Make sure UIndy is listed under the drop-down menu for Connection. If UIndy is not present, you need to Add the Connection.
- Enter your UIndy credentials.
- Authenticate with Duo
- Preferred method, see Use Verified Push on VPN.
- If needed, users can use SMS (text message) or a Hardware Token (not recommended)
- Select Other options for text message passcode or phone call verification.
You are now connected to the VPN.
If you're adding a new device to replace one that you previously activated for Duo Push, don't select the Duo Push authentication method (as stated in Step #6 above) unless you still have the original device. If you don't have the original device, but you have a new device with the same phone number, then you can authenticate with a phone call or SMS passcode. See Duo's instructions for adding a new device.
If you no longer have access to your original device, submit an IT Help Desk ticket for help.
