Authenticate with your mobile phone for VPN access (for vendors)
UIndyIT is protecting valuable assets with Duo Security, a two-factor authentication service that is a friendly and secure way for you to log into your applications. To learn more about Duo authentication, visit https://guide.duo.com/enrollment.
After you have been granted access to systems protected by Duo (e.g. the UIndy VPN), you will receive an email to complete enrollment and register your device. You can follow the directions listed in the email, or for detailed instructions, please see steps listed below.
We recommend opening the enrollment email/link on a computer and installing the application on your phone. Using two separate devices prevents any issues in the final enrollment process.
Note: Platform-specific instructions are provided with the iOS or Android mobile app. If you have issues activating Duo Mobile please open an IT Help Desk ticket.
- On your computer, open the email from Duo Security (From: [email protected]).
- Click on the link under "To complete enrollment, you must enroll at least one phone, tablet, or other device. To begin, click this link...".
- A new tab will appear for Duo-Enrollment. Click on the green Start setup button.
- Specify the type of device you're planning to use. Everyone should be primarily using your mobile phone.
- Click the green Continue button.
- Enter
your mobile phone number
. - Verify that you entered the correct mobile phone number, and check the box next to You entered (your phone number) is this the correct number?
- Click the green Continue button.
- Indicate your operating system/mobile phone type.
- Click the green Continue button.
- Optional, if you would rather get one time pass-codes sent to your mobile phone via text messages (and not download the Duo App), you can select the button next to Other (and cell phones).
On the next screen you will be prompted to install Duo. At this point, you will want to switch from your computer to your mobile phone. Be sure to keep your computer powered on and the enrollment screen up as you'll be coming back to that.
Install Duo on the same mobile phone that you used in the steps above. The instructions to download the Duo Mobile app specific to your mobile phone type are listed on your computer screen.
- After you have installed Duo Mobile on your phone, go back to your computer, and click the green I have Duo Mobile installed button.
You will see a QR code come up on your computer that indicates you can activate Duo Mobile on your mobile phone.
- On your mobile phone, open the Duo Mobile application.
- Tap Add Account (or the plus button in the upper right). Your phone will ask permission to use your camera to scan the QR code.
- Use your phone to scan the QR code that is on your computer.
- You will now see a green check mark over the QR code on your computer. Click the green Continue button.
You can customize how you want Duo Mobile to authenticate when you log in. We recommend:
- Select Automatically send this device a Duo Push from the drop down menu.
- Click the blue Finish Enrollment button.
Your enrollment is now complete and you can sign on to the UIndy Duo-protected applications.
