Meet your new computer

All full-time positions at the university are eligible for a new computer provided and maintained by UIndyIT. If you've received a new computer and don't quite know what all is available to you, please see below for more details.

To view a complete list of software on your computer, either press the Windows key on your keyboard or click the Start button to open the Start Menu. Look for the A-Z listings of all of your software. If you still can't open an app, use the "Windows search tool" on your taskbar.

In order to allow Windows Updates to run with as few interruptions to your work as possible, on Friday evenings please make sure your computer is plugged in and turned on whether you leave the computer at your office or take it home. Doing so will lessen the possibility that Windows updates insist on running the next time you start the computer.

The "Tips" app in Windows offers a great intro to Windows 10.

  1. Click the Windows Search magnifying glass.
  2. Enter Tips in the "Type here to search" field.
  3. Click the Tips App.

To view a complete list of software on your computer: navigate to "Finder" and click Applications. Use "Spotlight Search." Click the magnifying glass in the upper-right corner of the menu bar or press Command and the space bar simultaneously.

Incremental operating system updates and patches will be installed automatically, however full MacOS upgrades are not. UIndyIT evaluates available printer drivers and software compatibility before recommending an operating system upgrade.

Expand or collapse content Change your laptop password while on campus

Apple has acknowledged an issue when some users change their passwords. To minimize problems, please Do Not change your password when you are off campus with your laptop. If you change your password and still experience difficulties logging in, please contact the IT Help Desk.
