Download and install the UIndy VPN software
The UIndy Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows you to securely connect to the UIndy network from off campus. The VPN is required to use some UIndy services from off campus. UIndy has partnered with Duo Security to provide MFA for our UIndy VPN.
You must request access to the UIndy VPN by submitting a Help Desk Ticket before you can use the software.
VPN software is typically installed on University issued computers. To see if it's installed:
- Click on the search bar and enter Cisco AnyConnect. If nothing appears, proceed to download the VPN software. If Cisco does appear, skip to Connect to the UIndy VPN with Duo.
Download the VPN software
- Navigate to https://vpn.uindy.edu in your web browser.
- Make sure UIndyUsers_MFA is selected from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Login button.
- You will be prompted to the UIndy login page. Log in with your UIndy credentials.
- You will need to authenticate with Duo. Duo Push is the recommended option. If needed, you can select Other options for text message passcode or phone call verification
- Do you trust uindy.edu? Select the Continue button.
- Click the Download for Windows button.
- To begin the installation, click on the anyconnect-win-4...exe box once it is finished installing to the computer.
The "Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Setup" window should then appear. To complete installation, please proceed to the instructions below.
Install the VPN software
- Click Next.
- Click the button next to I accept the terms in the License Agreement.
- Click Next.
- Click Install.
- Your computer may ask you if you want to allow this app to make changes to your device. Click Yes.
- Click Finish.
The VPN client should now be installed on your computer. To ensure it was installed properly, follow the steps below.
- Click on the Search Windows magnifying glass.
- Enter
Cisco AnyConnect
and you should see the client show up under "Best Match" as a Desktop app.
You may now Connect to the UIndy VPN with Duo.
VPN software is typically installed on University issued computers. To see if it's installed:
- Click the Spotlight (magnifying glass) icon in the menu bar and search for Cisco AnyConnect. If nothing appears, proceed to Download the software. If Cisco appears, skip to Connect to the UIndy VPN with Duo.
Download the software
- Navigate to https://vpn.uindy.edu in your web browser.
- Log in with your
UIndy username
andpassword
. - Click the Login button.
- Click the Download for macOS button.
Open the downloaded file to unpackage it. By default, files downloaded from a web browser are saved in the "Downloads" folder located in the Dock.
- Click the Downloads folder in the Dock.
- Click the .dmg file to open it.
An "AnyConnect VPN" window will open with an "anyconnect-macos" package in it. Proceed to the installation instructions below.
Install the software
- Double-click the anyconnect-macos .pkg file to open it.
- Click the Continue button.
- Review the Software License Agreement and click the Continue button.
- If you accept the terms of the software license agreement, click the Agree button.
- Click the Install button.
- Enter the
username
andpassword
you use to log into your computer. - Click Install Software.
- When you see a message that the installation was successful, click the Close button.
If you are prompted to move the installer to the Trash, you may click the Move to Trash button.
The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client has been installed in your Applications folder.
You may now Connect to the UIndy VPN with Duo.
