Check for Mac updates

If you are a UIndy employee with a UIndy Mac computer, you need to make sure your operating system updates regularly to prevent it from becoming vulnerable to malware and hacking.

Updates (e.g. Catalina 10.15.1 to Catalina 10.15.2) happen between major operating system upgrades (e.g. Mojave to Catalina) and usually address bug fixes or security issues. Instructions on upgrading to Big Sur and Monterey are addressed in separate articles.

Apple automatically provides pop-up notifications about when updates are available when you are connect to any WiFi (unless you have turned off the notification).  If you are not receiving automatic updates, you can:

Check for updates

  1. Check your settings by clicking on the Apple icon at the top left of your screen.
  2. Click on system preferences.
  3. Click on notifications. 
  4. You will see a list of all of the upgrades that have taken place or are in the queue.

Change notification preferences

  1. Click on the Apple icon at the top left of your screen.
  2. Click on system preferences.
  3. Click on the AppStore. 
  4. You will be able to change your settings about receiving notifications about updates.
