Take screenshots on your computer
The ability to take screenshots on your device can be useful to both archive and articulate what is present on your display. This article is designed to show you how to quickly take a screenshot on your computer.
Screenshots are also useful to the IT Help Desk technicians. By attaching screenshots when submitting an IT Help Desk ticket, staff will be able to more rapidly address issues.
- Click the Windows Search magnifying glass.
- Enter
Snipping Tool
. - Click Snipping Tool.
- Click New.
- Once you have selected New with the Snipping Tool; all functions on your screen (aside from your Snipping Tool) will become frosted to the background and continue behind the Snipping Tool.
- Your cursor will change shape into a +.
- You will need to drag this + diagonally across the area you wish to capture into an image by clicking and holding until a square has formed around your desired image, then release.
- Once you have released your mouse, a window will open automatically allowing you to save your file.
- Click File.
- Click Save As.
- Save your file as you normally would.
It may take several trials to capture the image you want.
- Simultaneously press the command, shift, and the number 4 keys on your keyboard.
- Once the keyboard command sequence has been initiated your cursor will change shape into a +.
- You will need to drag this + diagonally across the area you wish to capture into an image by clicking and holding until a frosted square has formed around your desired image, then release.
- Once you have released your mouse, your screenshot will automatically save as an image file on your desktop.
- You can now treat this file as you would any other image file.
