Procedure for faculty and staff with desktop computers who need to work remotely
In an effort to make the transition to working from home as efficient as possible, Information Technology is providing three options for faculty (full-time & Associate Adjuncts) and staff who are currently assigned a desktop computer.
This option is best for:
- Individuals who may need to spend some time on campus in order to complete essential tasks.
- Individuals who absolutely must have a webcam to perform their job (primarily instruction).
Keep in mind:
- You are responsible for all technology assigned to you in your position. Keep close track of any items you do take home as you will need to bring all these same items back once we return to work.
- IT has a very limited supply of replacement items and may not be able to immediately replace broken or damaged technology.
- Please do not install personal software while your computer is at home. Remember that this is your University-assigned computer and should only be used for University business. All security and policies apply to the use of your computer, whether onsite or at home.
- Inform your supervisor that you are making this request.
- Submit a ticket and specify any software that will be critical for use.
The laptop will have the following pre-installed: Microsoft Office, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Google Drive File Stream, Adobe Acrobat DC, MirrorOp, Sophos Anti-Virus, Alertus Desktop, UIndy VPN software (Cisco AnyConnect)
- Start uploading necessary documents from your desktop to Google Drive as soon as possible as we will not have the capacity to perform a device to device data transfer.
Please be aware that we only have PC laptops available.
This option is best for:
- Individuals who will not be asked to come into campus at any time until operations return to normal.
- Individuals who either do not need a webcam or have a personal webcam (remember all virtual meeting options allow for joining via voice only).

- Submit a ticket and describe what you are taking home.
Please be aware that you will need a headset and mic (IT provided) and an external WiFi antenna (PC’s only) for you to be able to use your desktop for work at home.
This option is best for:
- Individuals who have reliable computers at home
- Individuals who regularly use a personal device for some work
Individuals who are currently assigned laptop computers will not be able to request an additional device. Anyone needing to pick up items at the Help Desk will be asked to make an appointment so that we are able to control the number of people in the office.
Please do not stop by without a ticket or appointment as we will not be able to adequately serve you.
With any option, IT will be unable to:
- Assist with disconnecting, moving, or setting up your work desktop.
- Assist with getting the computer connected to your home Internet.
- Assist with getting your home printer connected to your work computer.
