Export Midterm or Final Grades from the Brightspace Gradebook to Banner
- Instructors may only submit grades during the grade submission window, as announced by the Registrar’s Office. (Identical to submitting via UIndy Self-Service)
- Only instructors on record in Banner for the respective section (CRN) may use the Export to Banner function.
- Export to Banner is a feature facilitating grade submission to Banner. It is not obligatory.
- The Brightspace course Grades Tool’s Grade Scheme must match the Banner Grade Mode for the CRN.
- Banner does not accept numerical grades. Adjust your Grade Tool’s Grade Scheme before exporting Midterm or Final grades.
- If you need help, refer to Adjust Brightspace Grade Scheme before exporting Midterm or Final grades.
- If you receive a grade is rolled to history notice, contact the Registrar’s Office to make your changes.
You must set your Brightspace course Grades tool to a letter grade scheme.
- Click the Schemes tab. On the new page you can create or choose from existing Grade Scheme.
- Select the Enter Grades button.
- The View By option allows you to filter your grade roster by Users or Sections.
- If you choose view by sections, you may select a particular section by selecting your preference from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Apply button.
- Click the Export to Banner button.
- From the dropdown menu at Grade Type select Midterm or Final Grade.
- Check the box by the student’s username. You may select multiple students.
- The Current Final Grade will have automatically populated in this column. If you agree with the grade, skip to step 12.
- If you would like to override a Current Final Grade, manually enter
grade
in the Override Grade box. See blue box below about override grades. - Click the Export button.
Override Grades
- Must be capitalized
- -/+ symbols must be contiguous with the letter grade (ex: A-, B+, B- etc) i.e. no spaces.
- Must match the Grade Mode in Banner for the course
- You will promptly see the Export Details box depicted below. A spinning/processing wheel will indicate the requested task is being processed. Let the task complete.
Important Notes:
- Do not refresh or close your browser, during this process. Wait for the status to display Success.
- The process should complete within 1-2 minutes.
- If the process errors here, grades will not be queued to move over. You must resubmit.
- Be safe. Check UIndy Self-Service to confirm grades were successfully exported.
