VoiceThread is a learning tool for enhancing student engagement and online presence. With VoiceThread, instructors and/or students can create, share, and comment on images, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, videos, audio files, documents, and PDFs, using microphone, webcam, text, phone, and audio-file upload.
Compare VoiceThread account types
There is no limit on the number of threads that each account can build, but there are limits on the number of threads that can be active at any given time. In order to share a thread, it must be activated. Threads can be activated and then deactivated as needed; only active threads count toward your license total.
The table below shows the active thread limits and other account features for different types of VoiceThread accounts.

Get VoiceThread
Create a free VoiceThread account first
- Go to http://www.voicethread.com.
- Click Register in the upper, right corner.
- Fill out the form using your UIndy email address.
- Click Register.
Request to upgrade from a free account to a Basic license
- Make sure you have created a free VoiceThread account.
- Submit a UIndy Works help request.
- Request to be upgraded to Basic VoiceThread license.
- Include the name of your assigned faculty coach.
- Next steps will be provided when the license has been assigned.
